Conclusion

It’s a great feeling to be finished, I think I’ll ask for my certificate to be presented at assembly.

It has been an interesting experience and I have explored some things I never knew existed Some I won’t revisit others I intend to explore further. I do enjoy my I Google page, particularly my weekly recipe.

Probably my least favourite aspect was the number of user names and passwords I have created – it is so difficult to keep track

Week 12 E-Books and Audio Books

I enjoyed looking at the World E book fair and searched for some books out of interest. I found some but was disappointed not to find a book from my childhood that has been lost and is now out of print.

I liked the idea of Libri Vox podcasts with the free audio books, this is a site I will revisit – particularly next time I do a long car trip.

Week 10 Podcasts and YouTube

Had fun with both these sites. My daughters’ download the Hamish and Andy podcast but I had never thought of using it myself.I can now see the possibilities fot me and for use within the classroom as students access information in an audio format.

I knew about the existence of YouTube and although I’d never searched it I have been shown/emailed many videos. However I didn’t know about TeacherTube and I enjoyed searching this site.

Here is a link to a video on an Indian dance

Week 9: Wikis

It was interesting to look at the wide range of Wikis available and great to see a different way information can be collected and organised allowing people to share ideas.

I linked to a library in Kerala, India and was interested to see a picture of the library and read the library rules.

I will think about the possibilities for our school, we only have 4 classes of primary – Years 5 & 6 and they could be a good starting point for a WIKI.

Week 8

Just set up my del.icio.us account. I bookmarked and tagged a travel website and discovered 6,954 others had done the same site. I also tagged a data base, along with only 164 people.

I think this site would be most useful for tagging sites when I am helping my debating students do some research on their topics.

Library 2.0 looks interesting, I didn’t know this existed before today and there is so much that you could do with it. I am going to revisit it one evening at home when I don’t have any interruptions.

Week 7: iGoogle

I think I found this the easiest of all the tasks so far. I enjoyed adding the gadgets. I added all the required gadgets – Book of the Day, Librarian’s Internet Index, Google Map Search, Google Docs and Editgrid Spreadsheets. Then for interest I added Aussie Recipes and a currency converter. Finally just for fun I included Puppy of the Day and Pacman.

Work at Google! I couldnt contemplate it- 5 free restaurants wouldn’t be good for me, I would have to spend the rest of the day at the gym, pool etc and wouldn’t get any work done.

Week 5: Myspace and Facebook

I convinced my daughter to let me explore her Myspace – under supervision of course. The photos on it were particularly impressive, they consisted of collages, photo frames around them and a mixture of black and white and colour in the one photo.

I then set up Myspace, this looks very amateurish in comparison but so far I have one photo on and two friends!

I was interested in the U.S library pages, the “ask a librarian” pages looked useful. I haven’t discovered any local libraries that include a Myspace page.

Week 3 Image Generators and LibraryThing

I really enjoyed this week’s task. I played with my daughter’s deb photos and put her on many glamorous magazine covers. I have never used image generators before so it was a learning experience and I will go back later to do some more experimenting.

LibraryThing  I joined libraryThing and looked up some of my favourite books. The section I was most interested in was LibraryThing Local which informs about local events such as author readings, discussions etc. I’ve always planned to attend literary lunches when I retire and I think this could be a good way to find out whats on.
